CUSTOMS FORMS
Now that the UK has left the EU, this has bought about some major changes to the way in which goods being sent to the European Union and elsewhere in the world can be sent. Customs forms must be completed, and must be filled in in BLOCK CAPITALS, listing EVERY ITEM, and its' INDIVIDUAL WEIGHT and VALUE for EACH ITEM! This must also include any correspondence such as greetings cards. We can provide an official weight for a total, at the end, but YOU will need to declare every item that is listed, its' value and its's weight.
We have been informed today that any forms not completed correctly, will mean that the items will not be sent, and will be returned to sender. No refund for postage costs may be provided. This includes illegible forms, (ie, not completed in black-ink capital letters,) or parcels which when scanned include previously undeclared goods!
Please also investigate the maximum financial costs of goods, that can be sent to each relevant country, before incurring customs charges for the recipient within that country, and access the Royal Mail website for up-to-date information in relation to what may be posted to the receiving country!
As Post Office clerks, we are not responsible for checking that items are permissible, and that no customs charges will be incurred by the recipient, that falls to the duty of the sender, but we are happy to assist you with information should you need it.
We now have several different Customs Forms in place, dependent upon the size of your package, the service you require, and the value of the package contents. We are happy to assist you with this process, but to minimise our queues for the Post Office this year, please may we ask you to arrive with all the information in place to complete forms, such as-
QUANTITY OF EACH ITEM,
WEIGHT OF EACH ITEM,
VALUE OF EACH ITEM.
Please may we also ask you to post early this year. Several dates which were previously supplied by Royal Mail as Last Posting dates, have had to be amended, and therefore Royal Mail are unable to provide a guarantee upon postage times for items travelling abroad, only an estimate this year.
We thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.
